Law Debenture Release Report on Board Evaluations of FTSE 350 Companies

3 Jun 2011

Law Debenture Releases a Report on Board Evaluations Carried out by FTSE 350 Companies in 2010

The report gives details of whether companies carried out their own internal evaluation or used an external facilitator. FTSE 100 companies were more likely than FTSE 250 companies to have their evaluation carried out by an external facilitator; 34% of FTSE 100 companies using an external compared to 17% of FTSE 250 companies.

However, if financial sector FTSE 100 companies are separated from non-financial sector ones, there is a sharp difference; 62% of financial sector companies having an external board evaluation compared to only 23% of non-financial sector companies.

The Law Debenture report also reviews what companies say about the action plans resulting from a board evaluation; 39% of companies completing an evaluation, whether internal or external, reported on their actions. The report also classifies the actions and finds that the most common are improvements to: board-level strategy development, director skills and training, and executive succession planning.
